How I Learned To Trust My Gut Feeling

One of the most important things I can do for improving my health and fitness is to trust my gut instinct. Whether it’s the time of day I’m going to eat healthy (or drink green juice for that matter), or in my personal grooming choices, I can now understand that my gut is telling me things and is the best source I know of knowing whether I’m getting a balanced and nutritious meal.

When you begin to practice your gut instinct, you will begin to trust and feel comfortable with it. This will allow it to function as what Dr. James Levine and Dr. Robert Lustig call “your first line of defense” when you are under a lot of stress. This way your body can avoid eating harmful and potentially dangerous foods as well as get all the necessary nutrients.

It sounds like a simple concept, but if you’re not trusting your gut and it is constantly telling you “NO”, it’s no wonder that many, when not properly practicing the practice, are losing weight and can’t get into shape.

We’ve all heard of body image and our society often tells us we need to change our bodies in order to look a certain way.

Body image is a real problem and very few people can deal with it without going through a great deal of pain. Some people in this world have a very hard time finding even one other person, let alone their close friends to talk to about feeling the way they do. This can make you very lonely and can even be a lot of pain to talk about.

But trust me, my body is not the answer.

My body and how and when I use it has been a part of me my whole life. In fact, it’s how I’ve been able to get to where I am today. For better or for worse, my body is the only me the rest of the people around me can get to know.  I’ve learned over the years that sometimes, when I’m under a lot of stress, I don’t want to get my face out there and tell people my problems.  But it doesn’t mean I have not tried.  Over the years I’ve developed a couple of strategies and methods that I use when I want to avoid letting my body tell me something it really shouldn’t.

The first one was trying to diet to lose some weight.  I was afraid that if I lost weight, I’d be too skinny to find others to be close to.  What I found is people love having big and strong guys in their community and they can take pictures and enjoy the guys they feel comfortable with.  This can also be a lot of fun as well. In addition to that, this way to avoid letting my body let me know if I am okay with what I am eating has also become a great way to keep myself in shape without a gym membership or a lot of effort required at times. The second way, which I think is still working, is to not drink green tea or tea bags.  They aren’t healthy foods and most definitely will cause you to gain no energy, burn no fat, or make you too hot to handle.
