How To Build Your Body Into A Lighter, Flatter Shape

As our bodies become stronger and healthier, there’s not a chance that we can ever drop too much weight, and if we gain too much weight, we’re more likely to gain even more in the future. What’s the best way for us to maintain our size and weight while improving our health? By losing the junk, we gain the muscle.

We’ve all seen the weight-loss ads. In fact, one of the most famous, Body Issue, was founded almost a century ago by a woman named Betty Ford and features a woman who’s almost unrecognizable as the slim figure she was 25 years ago: She’s a thin young woman who’s been eating ice cream and wearing baggy pants. And the ads are powerful. They show us that we’re not good enough, not worth much, if we’re fat. The ad is often followed by a voice on television saying, ‘I want to be like that.’ And the message is that if you want to be skinny, eat healthy food and exercise, and that will do the trick. That simple message, that simple message has fueled the obesity epidemic and continues to fuel it. We’ve all seen the weight-loss ads. A more recent ad in which a woman’s stomach is ripped open and then a bodybuilder stands over her. These images seem to make us cringe – like what’s happening to her and what that person could be after those images are seen so many times. And this is probably why people, no matter who they are, don’t like it when they meet a dieter in person: they know what’s being advertised, and they want to avoid it. They want to be skinny. They also understand that in our busy lifestyles, it’s difficult to follow a diet regimen, let alone try to maintain it every day. In most cases, it takes weeks, if not years, to change our entire physiology, which is why it’s so important to learn how to eat.

And it’s important to realize that our bodies are the most delicate organisms that we share with the natural world. This means that as we age (in many cases, quite rapidly), there is a high risk that we could gain weight. And a lot of us, no matter how fit we think we are, do not have the skills to lose it. A lot of people go overboard. They do more than they think they have to, and that leads to health issues, which then have to be treated appropriately.

When trying to lose weight, it’s important that you make the right choice – choosing a food plan based on good health and a healthy body, with moderate servings of whole grains, vegetables, fruits, lean meats, low-fat dairy products, and lean protein. When you do, you’ll have more energy and confidence that you’ve made the right choice, and you’ll be much happier than you’ve ever felt. As you go through your own weight loss journey, I encourage you to think of it as a journey on a level playing field, something far beyond just losing a few pounds and then moving on to the next phase of your life. Don’t lose too much weight and let things get stale and boring, don’t lose too much weight and start feeling guilty, don’t lose too much weight and get discouraged, or lose weight fast and not feel it. Instead, do the right things and you will keep losing weight and feeling better all the time, regardless of which phase of your program you chose. And that, my friends, is how you get in the shape of your dreams and reach your fitness goals.
