What Are The Best Books For Getting Rid Of Boredom?

I hope you enjoy your life at Google. I like the fun that Google has provided, and I love the people who work here. I don’t hate you all or anything — you’re just a bunch of really smart people who are passionate about their projects and are striving to make the world a better place. Google, come back — your time has come.

A lot of us spend too much time staring at our smartphones, texting or reading e-mails while out and about. We’ve lost the joy of walking, the connection to others, and that little taste of the natural world. I’d like to help you get your life back, but we have to do it one step at a time.

The first step is the hardest. It’s the hard work, like working out. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can work out on the weekends, because you won’t. Your body and mind have to be in tip-top condition in order to work out hard on a busy schedule.

Then you have to pick your hobby. Pick a hobby you love. Find your passion. Make a plan to start a hobby or get back into a hobby you’re currently enjoying. If you enjoy writing, you can even get a job at your local paper and edit stories about animals.   I do this regularly, with books, recipes and other projects in mind.

Once you’ve chosen your hobby, start enjoying it. Write. Read. Talk to friends and family who have more interest than you do. Read great books and blogs by others. Do something you enjoy.

You might be tempted to think that this means you can leave your phone at home, but doing so won’t work. If you pick up your phone to find no one by your side, you know that something is probably wrong. But what exactly is it?

First and most importantly, it’s probably not a problem that we all face together. If we’re alone with our thoughts, we’re more likely to have distraction — i.e. something bad happens. You have to take a break before your phone gets too distracting. You’ll need a few hours of solitude before you’ll get the break you need.

It shouldn’t be too bad of a break though — a half hour or two once a day can go a long and way.

After you’ve taken a break from your phone, you’d better get back on the phone because you’ll probably be back out the other side a few hours or more sooner than you thought. When you’re on vacation, you need to be constantly reminded that you’re there. You can’t be away for more than a couple of days, and there should only be one person in the house when you’re away from home. The most important thing to remember is to take a break from the stress you face. You’ll have better mental health when you take a break than when you keep doing the same thing over and over, and it’s better for you at the end of the day when you’re not worrying about things.

There are three things that help with the long breaks from your phone:

Go outside Go to a place quiet and natural. A sunny park is a wonderful place to relax. A quiet place to work in during the day is also great. This sounds so boring, but honestly, it’s not. I love going on hiking trips. If you don’t like the idea (and it can be risky) then you can get a good book done in a quiet place. Just turn up the stereo if you have to. Just sit by the water. Don’t be tempted to work in your head with a book while you’re outdoors. It doesn’t work. Keep an eye open for the signs of stress, whether physical or mental, and find a way to break this cycle.
