What I’d Like To See In The New Health Care System

I’d like to see it where you can go to the doctor and get checked up right there, with your doctor there to take care of any problems that come up.

The idea behind this is that the patient actually gets the care they need immediately instead of having to wait for an exam. Doctors can also help patients make medical decisions and take care of their chronic disease better. I think people should be allowed to be treated instantly rather than waiting on an exam that may not be the best idea in the first case. Doctors can also help patients make medical decisions and take care of their chronic disease better. Doctors should be allowed to diagnose disease faster, and take better care of their patients.

If you can’t get an appointment on the phone, you shouldn’t have to wait for that. If you can’t get an appointment because you don’t have a regular doctor in the same location, you should always be able to get one. If your doctor can’t see you, you should be able to just talk to her about her office hours or call someplace else instead.

Also, you shouldn’t have to wait for your doctor to write a prescription. If you need a prescription right away, or you need to see a doctor urgently, then your doctor should be able to prescribe you the medicine in the quickest way possible rather than being forced to wait an hour in some doctor’s office for her to fill one of four different prescriptions.

We can talk about what I’ve named, for example, “Doctor’s Bill of Rights” after the new health care bill is passed if you want to. I’ll go ahead and close with two more things I’d like to see:

• Let insurance companies make decisions for their patients based on risk rather than having to take into consideration a patient’s own life or health to determine which doctor they would like to see or take an exam with.

• Allow a patient to choose the doctor they would like to see if they are not satisfied with the doctor they have now.

-endnote-

To the next level (see what I did there?) I’d like to see something that lets patients choose between different doctors based on their health and well-being, rather than making them pick a particular doctor for some specific condition in order to get help.

I’ll leave this post for other people to expand upon, but here are some things I’d like to see that are common sense as well.

A) Insurance and health insurance companies should not have the right to charge different rates to people based on whether or not they have preexisting conditions. They are supposed to have to price medical services based on how much a person costs their insurance company. If a patient has some medical expenses that he will never pay, then he should be able to get out of that policy without penalties.

B) Insurance companies should not be legally forced to provide emergency care. If a patient calls an ambulance because he is getting ill and needs medical help right away, but the ambulance service is too far away from home, and the patient dies there because they didn’t buy their own insurance, the man who got his heart broken should not have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for the ambulance service just because he didn’t get help that day.

C) Insurance companies should not be allowed to refuse to pay for life-saving surgery in order to avoid paying for medical expenses that a patient is certain he can recover from.

D) All doctors should have the right to refuse to perform any procedures if performing them would endanger a patient’s life.

E) All doctors should have the right to refuse any procedures if they don’t think their patient’s health is in danger.

F) All doctors should have the right to refuse to take your body for organ transplants unless they are required by law or a consent form that you, the patient, have signed.
