What Is A Body?

For decades, researchers and clinicians have attempted to give us a clearer way to understand what we are and why, but progress is slowly being made.

The notion that we have a body we can see and touch and feel is a recent and un-reversible invention. In its place have come notions of physical identity as we know it. Some people believe we have a brain in our skull, that we have a body shape and are composed of cells, but not all of these ideas have a firm foundation in science. Scientists often disagree and this confusion has led to various ideas around the body.

There have been many different beliefs regarding the physical body and its relationship to the mind, the spirit, and the soul. The idea of the body is the fundamental way we have been taught and taught ourselves. The reason for the debate here is because it is a complex subject that many people have had to struggle with in the past and continue to explore today. A new consensus is forming around different ways we can think of the body.

Here are some of the most popular theories:

Body is composed of chemicals.

The first theory we get is made from experiments in chemistry where the body was found to have certain chemicals within it like carbon, fructose, or alcohol. These different chemicals were said to be present in varying amounts.

For some strange reason, we have always heard this idea to be proven true. This is where this comes from: the idea that the body has these chemicals does not come from science, it is derived from folk wisdom.

This is one of many examples of people trying to find meaning within the chemistry of the body. It is not true. Many of us have these chemical substances in the body due to our diets, our diets can influence them.

The body is an amalgam of cells.

This is one of the commonest ideas of the body. Cell is a cell is a cell. There is no physical difference in the way the body is composed of these cells as far as I can tell.

There has been several recent studies of human genetics and genetic engineering to be able to see some differences, but as far as I have been able to tell, no one has found the evidence to be convincing that the body is made of cells. The only evidence to do so would come from studying the body in someone who did not have the gene or procedure.

The body does not exist. The mind is what makes up our physicality.

There have been many claims that the mind can have a body as it is something I call the ‘theory of minds’. It is based on the notion that our mind can ‘materialise’ into the body at any point in our lives. In particular, some researchers have proposed that the human body is a mental organ and it has a mind of it’s own that is active during sleep. This theory is extremely controversial as it ignores the very idea of the mind.

This is a very controversial and counter-intuitive idea. It has been used in the past to claim that if you are wearing a blindfold, then your mind will not exist and will remain in the blindfold. This is an example of the theory of minds but it is not supported by science.

One of the more controversial of the new approaches to the body is this idea that we are biological machines made of cells that have a mind.

This is a common argument that people make when talking about their bodies. It is an explanation for how we are in a relationship with the body. It states that there is a certain relationship between the mental and the physical. That we are a combination of cells. I will explain why it does not work in a bit.
