What The Health Professionals Don’t Tell You About Medications And Therapies

There are a lot of medications out there, so many of them have been around for decades, if not centuries. We all love our medications — especially our psychiatric ones. You might wonder …

You and I, we all have a great job as psychiatrists. We treat people and their problems and tell them what to do so they will be happy. Well, the truth is … the truth is … these drugs, therapies, therapies … are actually quite dangerous and they should not be used at all.

The truth is that there are hundreds of thousands of deaths from medications annually in the US alone — as much as 30,000 deaths per year. We can probably all agree that that is a horrible tragedy. But there is a way we can make medicines safer — or at least we can do something, such as requiring stronger warnings on prescription bottles and labeling in order to protect people’s health.

Many people seem to think there is no problem with using medications. When I started to tell them about all the deaths and the injuries and the accidents, and about what I had learned from my years as a medical doctor, they were just shocked. How could I know …

“I have a great job,” the patient may reply…

“Well, what about patients who die?” … “Well, what if they don’t have an amazing job and are just dead?” … “What if they die because they weren’t treated because they are too sick to go to the doctor?” … “Where are your jobs, people with terrible jobs?” … “What about patients who die because they went to their doctor but the doctor didn’t know how to help them?” …

It is really easy to be very skeptical about someone with a great job or even a great income, and to tell them things like, “Well, you won’t make $120,000 per year. I do not know how your family can even afford that.”

The reality is that someone is working in an office, and they are making about $120,000. But they are having a tremendous amount of trouble with health problems, they are taking lots of medications, they are having their blood pressure skyrocketing and they are also doing physical activity that makes them very tired.

They can’t get out of bed. They’re always on some strange and unfamiliar medication, and many of them take psychotropic drugs. They also might be prescribed antibiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs as a part of their treatment regimen. You are probably asking yourself, “Where can I find this patient in the hospital?”

I can show you someone who is in a coma. I can tell you about a man who came to see me with a horrible liver condition. You can tell me about a man who lost four or five fingers on his left hand to sepsis, and I can tell you where those guys are in the hospital.

The truth is … every single person in this room will be affected by medications. You may hear people say, “Well, I don’t take anything — it’s the government’s fault that I’m doing this to myself.”

Or other people will say, “Well, I’m a doctor and I don’t prescribe medications. These things cost too much. Where would you be if you didn’t write a big check every month?”

And you can tell people that … it is quite easy to make a lot of money. You can be a medical doctor and become very wealthy. It is a very profitable profession. But the truth of it is … when you become a medical doctor, you are going to spend much of your free time, your career, in helping people suffer …
