Why Don’t Americans Eat Like Their Teens?

Why the U.S. has a much higher rate of obesity than other developed nations. How our obsession with being the best causes Americans to eat like teen-agers rather than adults. We need to learn to love our bodies as they are. Not the perfect versions we might wish for. And to celebrate all the things that make us tick. Not trying to fix something that isn’t broken.

Let me tell you a secret. I’ve always been attracted to people who had a lot of fun (but I’m not talking just a little bit). And I’ve always been attracted to a healthy and active lifestyle. So, to me, I just sort of fell in love with people who lived with passion and love. They didn’t need to be supermodel thin or super muscled. They just needed some sort of health and happiness in their lives. I have a great friend called Kelly. A few years back, we met up and took a trip to Chicago together. And on the drive back, I started speaking to her about how I am fascinated with what it takes to be passionate about something that I am passionate about.

As I spoke with her, I found out that she was in the same boat. She’s into something called “vocal performance therapy”. She’s going through all the trials that other people go through, only to come out of it a little bit stronger and a whole lot happier. And I really think that’s amazing! I love that Kelly is really committed to that kind of thing. And I think that it’s a great thing to do.

I have to say, it’s a hard subject. It’s not something where I am going to be talking my head off here on the blog as to what’s really going on in it or why are people doing things like that. But, since you asked, here’s a little bit of what I know: The best thing you can do is to be passionate about what you do. What you think and what interests you the most. And to try and go after those things that you really want to do. Because you only get one chance a day. There’s no rush and you should plan ahead and do things that are important. Don’t just do something just to do it. Because you’re only getting a single chance.

In order to be that passionate and committed you need to take it seriously. If you don’t have the time and/or resources, don’t force yourself to do something just to push yourself. But, as long as you are passionate about the thing you’re doing, I think you will find a way to do it.

When you are passionate about something, you feel as though it’s right in front of you at all times. And therefore you go through the whole process of getting started. You spend hours preparing for the interviews. You do research before even giving a chance to the role you are auditioning for. You might even take lessons, even, if you are so inclined to teach yourself how to take better photographs. It helps to be passionate about the thing you’re doing, because it makes you feel that it’s the thing that is really important and that we really need to make a place for it in the mainstream.

So, when you say, or think, to yourself, “I’m never going to do something like that, I’ll never love myself and be healthy like the way I will like other people,” and you’re so far away from anything close to it. We need to take into account that being so far away from something can actually help you to grow and get closer to it. And I think that feeling of what I really want to get closer to is what motivates anyone to follow their passion.
